Tom Fox Dead; Proves Nothing
Christian Peacemaker Team member Tom Fox didn't survive his anti-American crusade in Iraq.
How badly he and his crew misread Iraq. They thought a message of pacifism would resonate with the people we're warring with in Iraq. Pacifism is a luxury for the elite of civilized nations to dabble in; it is not a tool with with you can conquer the bloodthirsty thugs who see destruction and violence as the pathway to power. Peace doesn't get mcuh of a number in their equation.
I'm with the troops. They'll bring peace to Iraq long before Fox's buddies will.
Here's Fox in his mission preceding Iraq: Protesting Israel's construction of a wall to keep bloodthirsty self-exploding innocent-killers off their streets.
Once again, he was on the wrong side, unable to see who the violent ones are.
Tom Fox was a Christian, responding, as the CPT Web site says, "to Jesus’ prophetic call to live out a nonviolent alternative to the cycle of violence and revenge." Is that what Jesus meant when he said "turn the other cheek?"
Maybe, but Jesus tended to talk about relations between people, and peoples' relationship with God. When it came to political issues, he told us to keep Caesar's stuff over there with Caesar.
I can't find anywhere in his teaching that says "Hate your country and root for the bloodthirsty terrorists."
So I don't understand him, but since we're both Christians, I'll get a chance to talk to him someday in eternity.
