KU Distances Itself From Mirecki
Following the tempest caused by Mirecki's intemperate remarks and the curious (and possibly false) allegations by Mirecki that he was beaten, KU's Friends of the Department of Religious Studies sent a postcard to its fundraising list:
One question: Why do they still appreciate his scholarly work and teaching?“We repudiate the inappropriate comments in publicized (e-mails) of one of our faculty members, even though we continue to appreciate his scholarly work and teaching.
“This department continues to be committed to open academic inquiry, fair and respectful dialogue, religious tolerance, and appreciation for the important contributions of religions in society. We will work more diligently than ever to merit your confidence.”
I still feel, as I said in my first Mirecki post, that the beating never occurred and is just another Keri Dunn story. You know, the Claremont prof who beat up her car and blamed racists. She's in jail now; Mirecki may soon follow.
