Beating Of KU Prof A Hoax?

I don't know Professor Paul Mirecki and I do know some redneck Christians; nevertheless, I don't believe there's truth in Mirecki's story of being beaten by two men who may have been angry at his anti-Christian comments.

It's not that Mirecki didn't deserve a beating, it's that beating up anti-Christians isn't a Christian thing to do. And don't forget, whacked-out college profs have been known to falsify attacks by conservatives.

Mirecki is the faculty advisor for a group at KU called Open Minded Atheists and Agnostics. Exhibiting the sort of open-mindedness we've come to expect from colleges, he decided to offer a course called "Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationism and other Religious Mythologies." That's my emphasis.

Lest the subtlety be lost on the student agnostics and atheists he is mentoring, he sent them an email that called religious conservatives "fundies," and said his course would be a "nice slap in their big fat face." How very open-minded.

As I read his report of "
two white men between 30 and 40 years of age. One of the men was described as wearing a red, visorlike ball cap and wool gloves" in a large pickup who beat him on the head, shoulders and back, I was reminded of this story:

A former Claremont McKenna College visiting professor, who spray-painted her car with racist and anti-Semitic slurs and then reported a hate crime on campus, was sentenced today to a year in state prison.

Pomona Superior Court Judge Charles Horan said Kerri Dunn "terrorized" minority students at the college and turned the rest of the students into suspects, adding that her actions could have sparked major racial violence. He likened her actions to calling in a fake bomb threat, saying it had the effect of terrorizing people. ...

She reported to police and school officials that her car had been spray- painted with racial slurs and the tires slashed March 9 while she was on campus preparing a lecture for an anti-hate forum. She also reported the vandalism to her insurer, according to the prosecutor.

Dunn's report of a hate crime prompted school officials to cancel classes at the five undergraduate Claremont campuses on March 10, and sparked anti-hate crime rallies that drew hundreds of students and captured national headlines.

Dunn claimed to have found her car vandalized about 8 that Tuesday night. But two prosecution witnesses testified that they saw Dunn drive her gold-colored Honda Civic into the college parking lot about 8 p.m. with the graffiti already on it.

"They saw her get out of her car, bend down next to two of the tires and they heard a hissing noise as she bent down to each tire," Bean said.
It seems that even a college professor would be smart enough to memorize a license plate, so if there's not an arrest in this case very soon, begin to ask questions.
