KU "Fundie"-Hater Prof Resigns

Paul Mirecki, the University of Kansas professor who planned to bait Christians with a course on creationism and intelligent design, has resigned as chairman of the Department of Religious Studies.

AP is downplaying a particulary interesting part of the Mirecki story. Here's their story:
A recent e-mail from Mirecki to members of a student organization referred to religious conservatives as "fundies" and said a course describing intelligent design as mythology would be a "nice slap in their big fat face." Mirecki apologized for those comments.
What AP's not saying is that the "student organization" it leaves unnamed is called Open Minded Atheists and Agnostics. Open Minded, mind you.

Mirecki not only said things repugnantly intolerant to Christians, he was the worst possible sort of mentors. His resignation doesn't mean he won't still be warping the minds of our young; he remains a full professor.

If you'd like to send him a word of advice, you can reach him at pmirecki@ku.edu.
