Watcher's Winners
Why did I suddenly think of Al Sharpton last night when writing about Barack Obama's win in Iowa? For no other reason, I'm sure, than that I'd read Soccer Dad's The Freddys Seven earlier. Others were apparently impressed as well, since this surgical de-mythifying of the Reverend of Racism is the 2008 lead-off winner in the Watcher's Council's weekly review of the best o' the blogosphere.
Taking second place among the Council nominees was Bookworm, with another excellent essay in her ongoing series of excellent essays: America Derangement Syndrome -- Or, Yes, You Can Call Them Unpatriotic. Get ready: Europeans have hated us forever; W. has nothing to do with it.
My exploration of leftist hysteria about abstinence, Did Bush Get Jamie Lynn Pregnant? tied for third with Big Lizard's The Best Years of Their Lives: Hollywood and Franklin's War.
Among the non-Council entries, the winner was Exploding Myths by Treppenwitz. This is a piece well worth bookmarking because it's a primer on truth vs. fiction in Israel/Arab affairs and history.

Auld Lang Syne atcha, Watcher! Nice start for the New Year.
