The Reuterian Way

President Bush gave a strong and honest speech last night about Iraq, displaying a candidness that is sorely needed. Now all he needs is some decent media.

Here's how Reuters reported the speech, by paragraph:
  1. Bush gave a tough speech. "We are winning."
  2. Americans have doubts about the war.
  3. "Do not give in to despair."
  4. Low approval ratings, high death toll, $6 billion a month for the war. Oh, there was an election in Iraq.
  5. Needed to confront criticism and Dem effort for withdrawal.
  6. Evesdropping "on Americans with suspected ties to terrorists."
  7. Bush attacked defeatism of rivals.
  8. Strong quote.
  9. Dems disagree.
  10. Levin intro.
  11. Levin quote.
  12. Feingold intro.
  13. Feingold quote.
So Bush got four decent paragraphs out of the first 16, and he was the one giving the speech. But there's no evidence of bias in the media.
