Iran Buys Atomic Time

The US, France, Germany and Britain are giving Iran a bit of time to consider a proposal to transfer uranium enrichment to Russia in order to avoid a UN showdown and probable economic sanctions, BBC reports.

The Iranian bullies are buying time with their threats to kick out the UN and go into full-on renegade status.

Key to the plan, of course, is Russian approval of it, since they're supposed to provide the enrichment. Reuters is reporting that the Russians and the Chinese won't go for it, but I'm thinking Bush just met with Putin and Hu and this offer followed shortly thereafter -- evidence that the Russians and Chinese will go for it and that Reuters has once again underestimated the Bush administration.

Next question: Can we trust the Russia/Iran connection with enriched uranium? The things we're asked to do nowdays ... !
