No National Christmas Tree?

Could it be that there will be no national Christmas tree this year, thanks to the environazis? Could it be that's just the beginning?

Unfortunately, the answer is probably, unless a judge saner than James K. Singleton and a court more reasonable than the Eastern District Court in California are found.

WashTimes reports that Singleton found in favor of the Earth Island Institute, ruling that the Forest Service can't waive permitting on projects that have minimal environmental impact. That was back in July. Now the court has decided that bit of stupidity ought to apply nationwide.

What does it mean?

Boy Scouts will have to do environmental studies before camping in national forests, people with cabins on land leased from the Forest Service will have to do the same before trimming trees to protect their homes from fires, and:
Court documents and Forest Service memos show that the permits immediately suspended include hundreds of projects nationwide for fire prevention on tens of thousands of acres; nearly 100 guide permits for hunting, fishing, horseback riding and fishing; 150 wildlife habitat projects; 165 permits to maintain camp grounds and trails; 15 ski area projects that may shut down the upcoming ski season in some areas; and 40 permits for family reunions and Boy Scout and Girl Scout activities.
And, because of the required public notices, comment periods and appeals, the national Christmas Tree, which comes from a New Mexico forest, should arive on the Capitol lawn around Valentine's Day.

This is unmitigated stupidity. There ought to be a rule that every Earth Island Institute lawsuit be thrown out on its face for just being too ridiculous. Teresa Heinz is a major contributor, as are the Tides Foundation and Ted Turner. That should tell you enough.

To them, any impact of man on nature is signficant, and any judge silly enough to not realize that there are things man can do in nature that are not government's business is clearly not capable of judging wisely.
