Why Bother With The People?
When Californians were asked to vote against gay marriage, over 60 percent of them thought the ban was a darn good idea. Sacramento, of course, continually fails to remember that they are supposed to be the voice of these voting Californians:

The hearings come two weeks after the Assembly Judiciary Committee approved a bill by Assemblyman Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, to authorize same-sex unions.
