New Front In Immigration Battle
Readers from outside SoCal may not have ever seen a government-supported center for the hiring of illegal aliens. The one in Laguna Canyon is quite pretty, a parking lot tucked into the scenic canyon, surrounded by fragrant coastal sage and shaded by eucalyptus. Underwritten in part by the city of Laguna Beach, the center is a place where employers can go to break the law by hiring illegals, who are paid off the books, off the tax rolls.
About a half-dozen cities support such centers in an effort to corral their illegals (not the language they'd choose) to reduce traffic hazards, litter and crime.
Yesterday, a group of anti-illegals activists set up camp across the street from the site, waving signs that read "Arrest the Employer" and taking down license plate numbers of people who hired the illegals.
Across the road on the hiring center's property, pro-illegals waved signs saying "Stop the Racism." Who brought race into the debate? This contingent drove in from (where else?) a college campus (UC Riverside) and was clueless. The OCRegister quoted student Chris Hernandez:

"You call someone illegal, it's a bad message, it's degrading, it's demeaning. Someone needs to stick up for these people. Someone needs to speak for them."Chris, I'd suggest that someone should be their immigration attorney. Go back to class.
