Quote Of The Day: Iraq Meltdown Edition
"I salute your courageous leadership that changed the national debate and helped make Iraq the central issue of this historic election. It was surely a dark day for the Bush Administration when you spoke truth to power. Your strong voice for national security, the war on terror and Iraq provides genuine leadership for our party, and I count on you to lead on these vital issues."

John Murtha, House Majority Leader. Funny ... tragic, really ... how a few thousand votes here and there can change the course of history.
With Nan shunning Jane Harmon as chair of the House Intelligence Committee, and endorsing Murtha for Majority Leader, it is clear that a rapid retreat from Iraq is the newly elected Dem's top priority.
The Intelligence Committee, instead of moving forward on expanding our intelligence capabilities, will become a pit of investigations into the Bush policies. The House leadership -- Pelosi and Murtha, two who voted again and again against the war, against funding the troops, against expanding intelligence capabilities -- will set about proving that it's easy to extract America from Iraq.
It will be. Create discontinent, cut funding, move bills, challenge Bush to veto.
What's not easy is dealing with the consequences. The last time the Dems led a defeat/withdrawl, it resulted in repression and death for millions of people in Southeast Asia ... but, gee, weren't things great in America in the '70s?
This time it will be worse, becuase the jihadists are more ruthless and expansionist than the North Vietnamese and their cold war pupeteers. Maybe it's just my cold (which kept me from blogging yesterday), but I haven't felt this depressed in a long time.
