Rove Exonerated. What But?

But.

In reporting the near-end of the Plame Game, a case that has brought it nothing but shame and embarrassment, that's the best the NYT can come up with.

In his statement [Rove attorney Robert D.] Luskin said he would not address other legal questions surrounding Mr. Fitzgerald's decision. He added, "In deference to the pending case, we will not make any further public statements about the subject matter of the investigation. We believe that the Special Counsel's decision should put an end to the baseless speculation about Mr. Rove's conduct."

But ...
But what? But Fitzgerald dug deep, Rove testified five times, and there's still no indictment -- no ten years in prison, as this nifty but wrong piece of work from the blog Screw the Government called for?

But despite all the NYT's and MSM's protestations, all that's come from the case is an indictment against Scooter Libby for saying he got the Plame news from the media when, allegedly, he got it from the Veep's office? Whoa.

But the Lib's efforts to make the Bush administration appear like just another corrupt bunch of jerks like the Clinton administration, except with nicer suits, has come up empty once again?

Nothing in the entire investigation has disproved the basic premise of what happened: Joe Wilson lied on a global scale about Iraq's nuclear intentions, and the White House revealed the lie.
