Haditha, Frayed

Following quickly on Times' admission of multiple errors in its rush to cover Haditha, WaPo reveals the Marines' side of the story.

Three attorneys for three Marines spoke to WaPo and their stories collaborate each other: Intelligence of an upcoming assault that provided cause for heightened awareness, an IED followed by a rapid firearms assault, a sweep with firearms and gernades, quick reporting up the ranks.

Of course, it goes without saying this is one side of the story, presented by attorneys who have a vested interest. Where was that disclaimer when John Murtha spoke? Where was it in the initial, breathless (mindless) media reports?

It's interesting to check out memeorandum on this story and see the dearth of lefty-blogs responding to it. So quick to pile on the Haditha story when it broke, they are holding back now that the story's being questioned. Here's a near-solo lefty-post, from the blog The Heretik, which has categories like "Damned Condi Rice" and "Damned War:"
That’s his position. And he’s sticking to it. Marine Staff Sgt. Frank D. Wuterich, 26 says rules were followed at Haditha.

“It will forever be his position that everything they did that day was following their rules of engagement and to protect the lives of Marines,” said Neal A. Puckett, who represents Wuterich in the ongoing investigations into the incident. “He’s really upset that people believe that he and his Marines are even capable of intentionally killing innocent civilians.”

Twenty four people were not available to say whether they were upset or not. Because they are dead. Iraq is a hellish place. Some would say it is one of the many mouths of hell, where in the screaming storm men forget who they are, or who the enemy is. If you forget who the enemy is, how will you ever remember who you are? Or who you were? Some live now with this quandary. And some don’t.

Evidence will be presented. Whatever it shows will tell a truth about more than just one marine.

The Heretik apparently missed the point that three Marines, not one, have presented evidence, but even so, he can only raise a weak and feeble point, because once again, the Left and MSM have been caught assuming the worst of America and its military.

Wherever the truth lies, I guarantee you, it will be less damning than what Murtha and Company have alleged -- and want to believe.
