False Stem Cell Promises

"Sir, will I be able to stand up and walk again?" the young boy, who had been paralyzed when hit by a car, asked.

"I will make you walk. I promise," replied the scientist, known for his breakthrough work in the cloning of human stem cells.

Unfortunately for the boy, Kim Hyeoni, the man in the white lab coat was Hwang Woo Suk, the monsterously discredited stem cell researcher at Seoul National University in South Korea. See today's LATimes for the full story.

Hwang's promise to the lad was no different than John Edwards' exploitation of Christopher Reeve's death to build false hopes of the paralyzed in America. Well, actually, Hwang just exploited hope for personal fame. Kerry/Edwards did it out of lust for power, which makes them the worse of the two.
