Castro Killed JFK, New Film Says

A new German TV documentary, Rendezvous with Destiny, presents newly unclassified evidence supporting the long-debated claim that Fidel Castro hired Lee Harvey Oswald to kill John F. Kennedy.

Der Spiegel reports the documentary:

• Quotes Alexander Haig saying LBJ believed Castro was behind the assassination, but believed, "we cannot allow the American people to believe that Castro ... had killed Kennedy," because "there would be a right-wing uprising in America which would keep the Democratic Party out of power for two generations."
• Says a recently declassified KGB cable exists, showing that Soviet agents recommended Oswald to Castro.
• Has Oscar Marino, a former Cuban secret agent, telling an interviewer, "Why did we take Oswald? There wasn't anyone else. You take what you can get ... Oswald volunteered to kill Kennedy."

Interesting stuff ... and more evidence that LBJ just might have been the most intuitive and devious politician in recent U.S. history.
