Global Warming, Pirates Linked

Presented for your consideration, from the very irreverent, anti-Intelligent Design Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster site:

You may be interested to know that global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters are a direct effect of the shrinking numbers of Pirates since the 1800s. For your interest, I have included a graph of the approximate number of pirates versus the average global temperature over the last 200 years. As you can see, there is a statistically significant inverse relationship between pirates and global temperature.

Of course the argument is false! Shouldn't we have seen a drop in global warming in light of last week's pirate attack on a cruise ship?

But flying spaghetti monsters aside, statistics are the power tools of scientists who seek to create scares, and that's happened in the global warming debate.
