Small Utterly Painless Sacrifices

The Senate has voted to forego its salary increase of 1.9 percent, saying they need to do their part to conserve in order to help victims of Katrina.

Here's another idea: How about recalling the transportation bill and cutting the pork. There's a lot more to save there than the $2 million saved by what Sen. Inhofe called "the annual hypocrisy day in the United States Senate."

Note: At least 60 Senators are millionaires. Foregoing the raise will result in $250 less per month on average, before withholdings.
