Pro, Anti-Gun Eyes On Brazil

Brazil is about to hold the world's first nationwide vote on whether or not gun sales will be banned -- and with voting compulsary and just six days until the vote, it's getting intense.

According to Reuters (via Free Republic), Brazil has the most gun-related deaths, with over 36,000 last year, so it's not surprising that the proposition started strongly in the polls. Just two months ago, 80 percent polled in favor of the ban; now it's even money.

Anti-ban ads have been very effective, including one leaflet that says, "Those who want disarmament, raise your right hand," alluding to Nazi Germany's decision to ban guns for civilians in 1938.

You know the US anti-gun lobby is watching this -- not just the results, but what's worked and what hasn't, so when they get around to mounting a similar effort here, they will do everything they can to take away our Constitutional rights.
