Re-Harping On The LA Angeles Of Anaheim
I've been to several Angels games this year, and once you're in the stadium, the whole name change to "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" seems to not exist ... almost. The shirts, hats and penants all say "Angels;" there's not an "LA Angels" to be seen anywhere, except the box score, where that bothersome "LAA" glows away.
The dispute won't be over until the city's lawsuit is heard, so yesterday's Public Relations Society lunch at Anaheim Stadium, where Angels PR guy Tim Mead explained the whole name change meltdown was a lot of fun. I was sitting next to OCRegister columnist Frank Mickadeit for the occasion -- this nametag thoughtfully said "Fred Mickadeit," which I'm sure did a lot to raise PR people in his sight.
Frank's column this morning is a fun summary of the day.
