Muted Bolton Response At UN

The UN press corps hardly jumped all over Kofi's spokesperson regarding the Bolton announcement. At the 16-question press briefing, only one question referred substantively to Bolton's appointment:

Question: The Secretary-General has to be diplomatic about Bolton, but this man is a proven foe of this Organization; he’s said the most outrageous things about the UN. Isn’t there the slightest trepidation upstairs about what he plans to do here?

Spokesman: Mr. Bolton comes as the Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, and I think the Secretary-General was eloquent in his comments about Mr. Bolton’s arrival, so I will not add to that.

The reporters didn't pick up on the phony Dem talking point that Bolton will be viewed as "damaged goods." The one question shows that they understand who Bolton is and why he was appointed, and that he's hardly damaged goods. In fact, it appears that even the reporters are a little concerned that someone's coming who just might shake up their quiet little world.
