It is a new era in foreign policy, indeed.
New-ish policy: The US assists Uzbek refugees, working with the UN to transport them to Romania.
Old policy: Ticked off, the increasingly totalitarian regime of Islam Karimov gives the US 180 days to close down its Karshi-Khanabad air base, which is important to our Afghanistan war effort.
New policy: A state department official says the United States would accept the loss of the base rather than give into Karimov and his murdering thugs. We will continue to push for political and economic changes and an international investigation on June's uprising shootings, the official said. (More here)
