No Gay Marriages In California

Update: Here's the SacBee story with all the details, including a crying Christian legislator voting for gay marriage.

Jackie Goldberg's probably feeling particularly inhuman this morning as Mark Leno's "Damn the people, marry the gays" bill died last night, with no chance of coming back ... this year.

The news was not played up in the LATimes; it was pargraph six in a legislative round-up, following news of bills requiring that bullets carry IDs, allowing illegals to get drivers licenses (gee, that seems like rather big news ... do you suppose the LAT is downplaying it until the Gov. signs it?), increasing the minimum wage (big surprise with a Dem legislature), and making cigarettes more "fire safe."

The gay marriage bill fell four votes short of the 41 votes it needed. That means there are 37 legislators elected by the people of California who think that they're smarter and righter than the people of California, and don't have to answer to them.

Only 37?
