LATimes: The Farmer's Friend?
I can't recall too many times the LATimes has been heralded as the friend of the farmer. Its reporting on California Central Valley issue more often concerns environmentalist actions to limit water to farmers, being a modern Upton Sinclair on farm labor issues, or standing in judgment of the farm/GOP alliance that dominates the Central Valley.
But when the President's new budget proposes to cut the budget deficits that were the focus of so much MSM criticism during the campaign in part by targeting farm subsidies, the LAT is chock full of quotes from farm interests critical of the President. (here)
After weeks of covering every Bush initiative as a shallow effort to curry votes, the LAT can't bring itself to state that their analysis doesn't apply here.
