Our Crumbling Civilization: Hooker Edition

We've all heard of the prostitute with the heart of gold (and some may even have believed it!) but what about a heart of bronze? Leave it to the Dutch, one of the favorite nations of the liberal Europe-loving set:

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Amsterdam's red-light district will soon get a new attraction: a statue to honor prostitutes around the world.

The statue, designed by artist Els Rijerse, will likely be unveiled at the end of March, Dutch news agency ANP reported.

"In many countries, prostitutes struggle and people have no respect for them whatsoever. The statue is meant to give all those men and women strength," Mariska Majoor, a former prostitute who commissioned the statue, told ANP.

ANP said the statue, made of bronze, shows a woman who confidently looks out into the world.

I've got a couple questions. First, will they have to pay her to unveil?

Second, are we supposed to respect prostitutes? Really?

My heart goes out to them. I pray for them regularly, as I do for all the lost souls caught up in the porn industry. They certainly need prayer, but respect?

Why should we respect a woman who can be no more creative, motivated or self-respecting in earning a living than spreading her legs? I thought the feminists told us we had to respect women for their brains not their nether parts, yet I'm sure the lost and deeply psychotic feminist movement will endorse this statue as much needed and too long awaited.

And third, why is it that American liberals look up so to Europe? If the climax (pardon the pun) of European liberalism is a statue to hookers, doesn't that just mean that our liberal/media intelligensia are digging deep into sickness and failure, only to put it on a pedestal?
