The Stupid Piggies Of Higher Education

"It's a disgrace. I'm ashamed to be a member of Columbia right now."
-- Scott, a Columbia student

Last night's display of the Nazi concept of free speech at Columbia University is going to make the rounds today, as live video of their disruption of Minuteman Jim Gilchrist's speech is posted on You Tube and available at many sites, both MSM and blogosphpere.

Good thing. There will be no doubt who the perpetrators of this act of intellectual terrorism. If Columbia University specifically or higher education in general ever hopes to bring discourse and debate back to their campuses, those who broke up the speech and kicked and punched conservatives trying to protect Gilchrist must be identified and disciplined, even prosecuted if there is evidence they are guilty of assault or threatening behavior.

This is their idea of liberal discourse, shades of Berkely:
"Workers of the world unite! Same struggle, same fight!"
"Minutemen, Nazis, KKK! Racists, fascists, go away!"
Michelle Malkin (at "blogosphere" link above) reports that the leftist perpetrators are being true to their core beliefs and are well on their way to becoming DNC operatives, as they have denied all responsibility and are placing blame on the law-abiders:
We celebrate free speech: for that reason we allowed the Minutemen to speak, and for that same reason we peacefully occupied the stage and spoke ourselves. Our peaceful protest was violently attacked by members of the College Republicans and their supporters, who are the very same people who invited the Minutemen to our campus in the first place. The Minutemen are not a legitimate voice in the debate on immigration. ... No human being is illegal.
They repress free speech and they lie in the face of documented evidence, so they are not a legitimate voice. These thugs are what modern universities turn out.

Look at the audience in the video and count the people who are sitting nervously at their seats, hoping the demonstration will stop and the speech will go on. They do not look like conservatives particularly; they look like people who still want to hear the discussion of issues. As is the case with all application of liberal thought, the rights of these mainstream folks are trampled in the name of the rights of the rights-tramplers.

You'd think the leadership of a major university would see how wrong that is, and do something about it. You'd think. Here's the contact info for the president of Columbia, if you're interested.
