Quote Of The Day: Assad Edition
"[Bashar Assad] didn't send half a soldier to participate in the fighting, he didn't fire half a gun or anti-aircraft missile. But after the Israeli guns fell silent, he opened his own guns at Arab countries and leaders."
Editorial in Egypt's El-Akhbar newspaper
Arab leaders are behaving badly in the days following the cool-down in the Lebanon-Israel war. The blow-up began with Syrian Prez Assad's charge in a widely publicized speech that mideast leaders were "half men" -- a specific slam at Saudi Arabia, Jordanian and and Egyptian leaders for condemning Hezbollah's abduction of two Israeli soldiers.
Imagine how the human rights fanatics would have reacted if they found out our soldiers were yelling, "You half men!" at Abu Ghraib prisoners!
Rather than speak for themselves, the Saudi, Jordanian and Egyptian leaders simply let their mouthpiece media do the talking for them, and JPost has a delightful write-up of the catfight.
Entertaining as these raucus tinpot steamwhistles are, it would be wrong to get comfort from yet another story of failed Arab unity. The terrorists we're fighting are too clever to tie themselves to these crackpots. They draw from one state here, another there, they work the wealthy Arab families, they play the wind, all to keep their support coming.
