Hiding The Obvious

Let's see. Here's the AP report on the Bombay bombing ...

Police suspect a group called Lashkar-e-Tayyaba ... Kashmiri militants ... oh, there's that "Kashmiri militants" militants phrase again ... hmmm ... known for simultaneous bomb blasts ....

Gee, I wonder if they might just be Islamic jihadists? Let's see .... Oh, here it is, in paragraph six:
"This is the work of groups which are targeting India as a whole and are not Kashmir specific and are pursuing the larger jihadi agenda," said [former intelligence official Agit] Doval, who maintains strong contacts in the intelligence community. "They are targeting countries and societies, particularly democratic ones, which they consider to be the antithesis of their version of Islam."
AP can't bring itself to say jihadists are suspected in the bombing; rather, it takes them until paragraph six to quote someone who doesn't work for AP to do their dirty work for them. Could you imagine in the 1940's waiting until paragraph six to find out that the Nazis were sending the V-bombs into London, or the Japanese were sacking China?

Here's a bit more on Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, from the blog Hikm:
[Jamaat-ud-Dawa] is closely associated with the banned Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, or “Army of the Pure,” which, like Jaish-e-Mohammed, sends its fighters into the Indian section of Kashmir to kill soldiers and blow up military barracks. Both groups are also suspected of having committed the 2001 attack on the Indian parliament in New Delhi.
And the wonderfully named blog, Clarity and Resolve, reminds us that Lashkar-e-Tayyaba was behind the massive demonstrations in Pakistan -- not Kashmir, but Pakistan -- against the Kartoonistan cartoons.

AP, once again subtly putting quotes around the Global War on Terror.
