Have You Written Your Letter Yet?

Ambassador Said T. Jawad
Embassy of Afghanistan
2341 Wyoming Avenue, NW
Washington DC 20008

Dear Ambassador Jawad:

I am writing to plead for the freedom of Abdul Rahman, who is on trial in Afghanistan because he accepted Christianity as his religion.

Mr. Rahman does not deserve to die or be incarcerated at the hands of an intolerant application of the Islamic faith; he deserves to live in freedom, saved by the modern Islamic democratic republic that is Afghanistan.

Your country has inspired America over the past few years, and Afghanistan has the opportunity to do so again, by being an example to other Islamic nations, showing them that it is possible for a nation to be both deeply religious and deeply committed to freedom.

Please let President Karzai, the Minister of Justice and the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission know of my concerns, and my plea that Mr. Rahman’s human dignity and human rights be protected, as provided for under the Afghan constitution.

Please let them know that the world is watching this case, and praying for Mr. Rahman’s freedom.

Sincerely,
Laer Pearce
