I Rack Up An Iraq Wrap-Up

Nancy Spewlosi commenting on President Bush's war policy speech yesterday:
The President says that the security situation in Iraq is getting better. But just because the President says it, does not make it so.
AP today:
The U.S. military said Thursday that suicide bombings fell in November to their lowest level in seven months after joint U.S.-Iraqi operations west of the capital.
Just because you say it's so, Nancypants, does not make it so.

And just because he media says it's so .... Here's AP this morning:
Iraqi Rebels Attack In Ramadi

Insurgents launched a brief assault west of Baghdad on Thursday, firing mortar rounds and rockets at a U.S. base and local government buildings ...
And here they are tonight:
In Ramadi, the U.S. military played down reports by residents and police of widespread attacks against American and Iraqi installations there, saying only one rocket-propelled grenade was fired at an observation post and there were no injuries.
Whoa! Big attack. And by the way, when did AP, which long ago dropped "terrorist," drop "insurgent" for "rebel?"

Meanwhile the bizarreness of the terrorist mind grows ever more evident (also from AP):
She was the typical girl-next-door — pretty daughter of a hospital secretary who grew up on a quiet street in this rust-belt town and finished high school before becoming a baker’s assistant.

Years later she was in Baghdad, carrying out a suicide bombing in the name of jihad — a disturbing sign of the reach of Islamic militancy.

Neighbors say Muriel Degauque, who blew herself up last month at age 38 trying to attack U.S. troops, had lived a conventional life but became heavily involved in Islam after marrying an Algerian.

Mind-boggling, eh? Done with the confusing news; here's the good news. Muriel's loser hubby died "in mysterious circumstances" while trying to set up his own suicide attack. And better news: Muriel smithereened herself without so much as mussing the hair of anyone around her.

So in the lovely Religion of Peace, neither makes it to paradise. Couldn't happen to a lovlier couple.
