More On Commies At The Canal

The Chinese took over the Atlantic and Pacific ports of the Panama Canal during the Clinton Administration (natch) after Carter (natch) let go of US control. The Clintonista's official position on the Chinese contract to operate the ports was:
The company [Hutchinson Whampoa] does not have any ability to stop or impede traffic through the canal. In fact the treaty that has been signed by the United States and Panama calling for the transfer of the canal at the end of this year provides a guarantee for security of the canal, and it also says the canal will be operated in a neutral way, open to all ships of all countries. We do not anticipate any problems whatsoever as a result of the port facilities that are owned by Chinese company.
The treaty also gives the US the right to intervene militarily to ensure the neutral operation of the canal. So it's OK because we can send in the Marines against a dug-in Chinese enemy? Who dreams this stuff up?

Clinton put his handlers into a tizzy when he went off-script and said the Chinese "would be running" the canal. When a reporter asked, basically, if he was insane to let the Commies control the canal, Clinton responded:
"I think the Chinese will, in fact, be bending over backwards to make sure that they run it in a competent and able and fair manner.... I would be very surprised if any adverse consequences flowed from the Chinese running the canal." (source)
He also thought oral sex wasn't sex, so I'm not to calmed by what Clinton thinks.

As for the Chinese government's next step in its peaceful Panama invasion, Howard Airforce Base, I'm still digging into China's stated intent to bid on the purchase of the base from the Panamanian government, which took over ownership in 1999.

Click on that link above for a photo. Think about the Chinese in control of both ports, and able to fly clandestinely into its own airport near the Pacific Port. Think about a Chinese-controlled airport anywhere in the Americas!

The bidding for Howard is being managed by the Panamanians, so this is a very different matter from the recent attempt by China to take over Unocal, which was a matter decided largely by Americans with American oversight.

More to come...
