Massey Day 2: AP Uncorrected
One of the primary ways AP reports news is by rewriting stories from its subscribers' newspapers. But AP didn't pick up Ron Harris' St. Louis Post Dispatch story calling out Jimmy Massey for lying about US military atrocities in Iraq.
I am sending this post to AP editors today in order to ask them why they're ignoring the story. Why have they let a day go by without putting something on the record countering the three stories AP has run that allowed Massey to make his atrocity claims unchallenged? Why did they choose not to simply move Harris' story?
A few more newspapers around the country are running the story -- but just a few -- and they're picking it up from the Post Dispatch itself, not AP. They are: The Charleston (WV) Gazette, the Seattle Times (never would the Post Intelligencer touch this story!) and the Times Union (Albany, NY).
CNN has also covered the story, as Michelle mentioned yesterday.
Meanwhile, there have been 756 blog posts about Jimmy Massey in the last 16 hours alone, according to Technorati.
This is not shaping up as a big win for MSM claims of being bias-free. It is shaping up as another case for the blogosphere.
