A Massive Win For Bush's Man

The choice was simple: A Bush in Campbell's clothing, or a McCain in drag. The results are clear:

JOHN CAMPBELL (REP) - 36,640 - 46.0%
MARILYN C. BREWER (REP) - 13,272 - 16.7%
JIM GILCHRIST (AI) - 11,490 - 14.4%
STEVE YOUNG (DEM) - 7,110 - 8.9%

As you can see from the results, Newport Beach is not a typical district, with 67% of the votes cast before a Dem gets a vote, but in this district at least, the people are behind the candidate with strong conservative values. Brewer, as nice a person as you'll ever meet, is pro-abortion and soft on the war.

Border hawk Gilchrist can be credited with taking 14.4% of the votes away from Campbell, a good showing for a first timer against two seasoned pros -- but he was not able to send the strong "seal the border" message he'd hoped to send to DC.

The guy with the biggest challenge now is Hugh Hewitt. He's going to have to find the second smartest guy in Sacremento now, and that might be quite a feat.
