Energy Lemmings Head For Cliff
Unable to reach a compromise, the House Resources Committee is now the graveyard of a bill that would have lifted bans on offshore natural gas exploration and development.
Leading the charge against the ban-lift was Florida, where people apparently are content to use energy sources from other places, but not their place. Jeb Bush can be counted among the opponents -- something the Libs will forget when they next spout off about the Bushes being in the hands of the energy companies.
California's no better, with Schwarzenegger vocally against any change in the current law that stops new oil and gas development in federally owned offshore waters.
Pombo's effort was to allow production if the adjoining state was OK with it -- but apparently head-in-the-sand types weren't big supporters of states rights this time around. (souce)
