CA Gay Marriage Bill Passes

Just mustering the 41 votes needed to clear the Cal. Assembly, Mark Leno's gay marriage bill now goes to Gov. Schwarzenegger. The vote by the people's elected officials ws 41-38 to ignore the vote of the people and pass a bill that would overturn Prop. 22 -- the wildly successful initiative banning gay marriage.

Shame on Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America, and Alice Huffman, California president of the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People, for standing by Leno and confusing civil rights with gender preference.

Three months ago, the Assembly failed to pass the measure.

Schwarzenegger has until Oct. 9 to decide whether or not to veto the bill. He has said he prefers the courts to decide the issue of gay marriage. Wuss.
