Amnesty International Hard At Work

In a Daily Kos post called "GOP focuses on Nazis, world focuses on torture," we find this:

The Yemen Times reports that an Amnesty International lawyer told families of prisoners about "legal measures they said were designed to pressure the U.S. administration to give detainees fair trials and release those who prove to be innocent of the charges of terrorism."
One has to wonder what the response the AI reps get from repressed, freedom-clueless Yemenis. "Fair trials?" they ponder. "Legal measures?" they ask. Those must be confusing concepts to someone who has lived his life under an Arab dictatorship. And those "who prove to be innocent of the charges of terrorism" must strike them as particularly curious, since they live in a culture that raises terrorists and indoctrinates them to strike out at America.

There should be no trials, and no release, for enemy combatants picked up on the field of war with no uniform and no identification of part of a recognized army that follows the Geneva Convention. AI has a different view and God bless them for it -- but if they were apolitical, they would be applying that view where it needs to be applied: Iran, China, half of Africa (including Yemen), and on and on.

Oh, and by the way: We are not focusing on torture because there is no torture!
