Supreme Court Positioning

Laura Ingraham said this morning that her Supreme Court sources tell her Chief Justice Rhenquist is telling his clerks for the next term to prepare to report to duty. If that's true, you have to ask why he wouldn't do the right thing for his family and his nation and step aside now.

Over the weekend, McCain said it wasn't up to the 55 Republican Senators or 45 Dem Sens to decide whether a Supreme Court nominee would be filibustered; instead, it's up to the Gang of 12. Unbelievable arrogance.

Meanwhile, the LATimes reports that Dems and Reps are gearing up for a nomination fight, should one occur. It reports that war rooms stand at the ready, with dozens of phone lines and computer hook-ups, and teams of lawyers are researching the records of potential nominees -- all in an effort to influence the first 40 hours of news coverage.

I'll be contacting the pro-GOP lobbying groups -- Committee for Justice, Progress for America, Judicial Confirmation Network -- and request that they put me on their inside media list. Then, possibly, another Scoundrels Chronicle, this time of left-wing media bias in the confirmation battle.
