Sandy Won't Go To Prison

Sandy Berger dodged prison time yesterday, but was ordered to pay a $50,000 fine -- five times more than the Goverment lawyers asked for -- for illegally stuffing his pants with secret documents on the Clinton Administration's lackluster anti-terror activities.

Kudos to Judge Deborah Robinson for ignoring the gov's recommendation -- but why did she only suspend Berger's access to confidential info for three years? He's proven that he's not to be trusted, and he should have lost all access forever. Here's what he said about his crime:
"[I let] considerations of personal convenience override clear rules of handling classified material. In this case, I failed. I will not again."
Well, that sure rebuilds my confidence in him, and in the ethical integrity of both Clintons and their cohorts.

By the way, when the charges were originally filed, the Kerry campaign called them politically motivated. Will Kerry call Berger's acceptance of the fine and probation politically motivated as well?
