Next Up: Iraq vs. Iran or Syria?
In a column titled "Getting Serious About Syria," William Krisol recently detailed the threats that country poses to a peaceful Iraq -- and to the lives of our soldiers there. Just as serious a threat is Iran, which like Syria, provides funding, refuge and support to those who would kill our soldiers and continue a repressive regime in Iraq.
Kristol's comments echoed those frequently made by Iraq Interim Prime Minister Allawi, who yesterday stepped up the rhetoric, saying (here): "Iraq is not a weak country. Iraq is passing through a difficult period, but Iraq can respond in a strong way if needed."
What a rallying cry it would be for Iraqis to see their troops take out the anti-Iraq infrastructue in towns like Aleppo, Syria, where "Mujahideen Mosques" shelter and train terrorists. Success in such an effort would boost the morale of the Iraqi army, which is involved in a spirit-crushing battle within the borders of its country.
