Lefties Abandon Tsunami Relief

The Left, bleeding heart champions of the underdog that they are, should be pulling hard for tsunami relief. That's not the case. Just six days after the disaster, they are entrenched in their anti-Bush rantings and their senseless theories for DNC reconstruction. (What's needed is reconstruction, medicine, food and water along the Indian Ocean. Donations to World Vision are a great way to accomplish that.)

After blasting the US contribution in the early hours after the tsunami and saying Hamas would out-give us (ha!), Daily Kos has fallen strangely silent on the whole subject of the tsunami, except for a paid ad from Unicef.

Using the "Kos Alumni" links on Kos' home page as a sample, here's what other Lefty blogs are doing for tsunami victims:

Steve Gilliard's News Blog, an obscene and virulently Anti-American place if there ever was one, has no links or calls for donations save Unicef's paid ad. But does have this: One of the weird things about the tsunami, other than it's penchant for leaving cute little blond Swedish orphans to show on TV, is how it's given two of the region's longest running civil conflicts, Aceh and Sri Lanka, local governments power to break the back of these rebellions with clever manipulation of food and reconstruction aid. Worrying about the fate of local bloodthirsty revolutionaries in the face of this tragedy is even more reprehensible than the eco-handwringers I wrote about yesterday.

The Left Coaster has a link to give money to him, but no links to give money to tusnami victims. He leads with two tsunami survivor stories, then adds this commentary: In no way does it diminish the tsunami tragedy to observe that the Bush administration, in the name of the people of the United States, five weeks earlier visited a comparable disaster on the people of Falluja, Iraq. But that tragedy has gone largely unreported by the U.S. press and world media. I'd say it diminishes the tsunami tragedy quite a bit to compare it to Fallujah, where we gave weeks of warnings, allowing regular citizens to leave the city, then focused our assault on those bad guys who beheaded, raped, tortured and otherwise killed people.

The Yellin Report posts nothing at all about the tsunami and provides no links for donations.

Liberal Street Fighter offers no way to give and only one tsunami story, skewering "a neocon climatologist" for condemning environmentalists who have linked the tsunami to global waqrming. He says, "Problem is, I couldn’t find a single claim—by an 'environmental expert' or anyone else—made in the past week that connects the Indian Ocean tragedy with global warming." You're not looking hard enough. Junk Science's Steven Milloy via Fox News gives these examples:
  • Two days after the tragedy, the executive director of Greenpeace UK (search) told the British newspaper The Independent, "No one can ignore the relentless increase in extreme weather events and so-called natural disasters, which in reality are no more natural than a plastic Christmas tree."
  • Friends of the Earth (search) Director Tony Juniper told the same British newspaper, "Here again are yet more events in the real world that are consistent with climate change predictions."
  • A spokesperson for the Indonesian arm of Friends of the Earth told the Agence France Presse, "We can expect in the coming years similar events happening as a result of global warming and therefore help and prevention are the responsibility of the Northern countries as well."

"Kos Blogfather" MyDD has nothing except the paid Unicef ad.

And we conservatives are the cold-hearted ones? Once again, the Left's rhetoric is out of sync with reality.
