Faith Well Represented ... In the LA Times!
Even papers with liberal biases that drive readers crazy sometimes get it so right. This morning's LA Times showcases on the front page a story, Required: School Prayer, telling of the life of Micah Grant, inner city LA kid who gets through his tough days by heeding the teachings of the Bible.
There are no jibes, no judgments, just a straightforward telling of a tough life lived well, raised by good parents and protected by faith in a Father who teaches well:
Trust in the Lord, and do good.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Fret not thyself because of evildoers.
Endure hardness as a good soldier.
Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.
I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me.
He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good.
Yes, those verses were sprinkled throughout the story in a way that showed how the faithful lean on the Word of God for strength and direction.
Let's pray Micah makes it through his years at Washington Prep in Inglewood and goes on to honor his father and mother and build God's Kingdom. And let's thank Erika Hayasaki for one nice piece of writing.
... But still, I wonder if the LA Times would have run such a story on a suburban kid in white skin. I wonder if it's OK to write about religion positively in MSM so long as it's religion in the minority community. No, I'll just put that aside and enjoy the story.
