Aussie Churches Targeted In Riots
Muslim Lebanese rioters in Australia have burned one church, damaged others and spat on Christmas carolers. It's hard to continue saying these riots are about economics and rights when the rioters themselves have turned them into religious riots. (h/t LGF, from The Australian)
From the outset, I've expected the Australian government to deal with Muslim riots more forcefully and effectively than the French, but so far it's been disappointing -- probably because I expected too much, as this blogger points out:

In New South Wales and specifically in the city of Sydney, the politically correct types have [for years] been softening their police and judicial response to anyone of a Muslim or middle-eastern background. At the same time, these Muslims have been joining violent and drug-dealing gangs. It has made much of Sydney a no-go area for the law abiding. That's right -- Australia is a social democratic state.
The states response? More cultural understanding (condemnation of Aussie talk radio), more "reaching out" to Muslims (throwing out arrests and convictions based on technicalities), etc. In other words, NSW police and courts gave in to the weak-willed men and feminist MPs - and more than that they gave in to the Muslims street criminals.
