"Barely Born, Blogs Flogged"

No, the OC Register editorial page isn't talking about Hugh's book tour. The subject is the FEC, McCain-Feingold and Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly's ruling on the Internet and campaigning.

The editorial gets it right; it's not about blogs, it's about McCain-Feingold:
The difficulty of such judgments highlights the inherent difficulty arising from the McCain-Feingold legislation. Billed as an attempt to control corruption or the appearance of corruption in politics, the law inevitably controls political speech and does so most explicitly when political speech should be freest - during an election.
Certainly, blogs run by campaigns are different animals that blogs run by passionately partisan private citizens. Regulating the former is within the purview of McCain-Feingold, but not the others.
